30 years ago I was training at Midorikai. A student asked me recently if I still remember what I did at Midorikai and if what I learned I still use or put into practice today. I can say that yes, I definitely remember my time at Midorikai, but some of the tougher times have faded over the years. After I came back to the U.S., the 10 things I learned at Midorikai, but looking back 30 years later, I also want to share with you some other things I learned. Some of these things were even more profound than the previous list. In no particular order:
- I learned how to wait.
- I learned not react immediately.
- I learned to give others the benefit of the doubt.
- I learned to handle uncertainty and ambiguity.
- I learned to yield.
- I learned what commitment really means
- I learned to keep things to myself
- I learned to persist
- I learned to endure discomfort and hardship
- I learned to find joy in any circumstance
I will be writing more about these insights in subsequent posts.
